Designing your ideal Christmas party outfit means understanding current trends. Right now, there are some definite trends and styles that you need to incorporate into your outfits. If you want to stand-out at your many functions this year, you need to keep things simple, yet sophisticated. We have seen many fabulous catwalk inspirations recently, and so we have a variety of styles from which to choose. One of the most dazzling styles right now takes inspiration from Gothic design and elegance. Here’s what’s inspiring us for the festive season 2014.

Sleek, sophisticated hair

Forget wavy locks and straightened hair, this year we want our hair out of our face and out of our way. The best hairstyle of the year has to be the slicked-back up-do, which many celebrities have been wearing. You can create this look with ease at home. Wash your hair the day before your function so that it is not too clean. Use a styling comb and spray gel to slick back your hair and tie it in a neat bun.

Gothic inspirations

The dresses of the year are glorious Gothic-inspired pieces that are sure to catch your attention. We love everything from lacy black pieces to embroidered bodices. If you can find a dress that incorporates both, you have the ideal party dress for 2014. Look for quality dresses online so that you can find the perfect one to suit your style. If you fear looking too dark, you can always brighten up the trend by using some silver accessories.

Fitted dresses

When you are choosing your dress, you need to make sure that you get a fitted piece. There is nothing worse than a dress that does not fit you. It doesn’t matter what size you are; you can find a dress to flatter your shape. For example, if you want to hide your stomach, get a dress that nips in below your bust. You should look for a skirt that flows outwards from this point of your body. That way, you give the illusion of having a tiny waist, even if you don’t have one. Choosing the right fit for you can be difficult. If you need any extra help, see a stylist in your local department store.

Accessories

You must make sure that you don’t use too many accessories this year. The trend right now is to keep things minimal. That means that you should only have two or three accessories per outfit. For your Christmas party outfits, make things a little festive. As I mentioned before, you might want to use silver jewelry to brighten the look up a little. If you don’t want to do that, make sure that you stick to one color. When you have a black dress, it is wise to use just one other statement color in your look.

Ideal shoes

Shoes are, usually, the hardest part of any outfit. If you are looking for a great pair of shoes, think about the function you will be attending. If you are going to a meal, you can afford to wear high heels as you will be sitting down for most of the function. If you are going to a party, you might want to wear a low heel shoe. Make sure that you match your shoe color to your accessories. Metallic shoes are huge right now. Online stores, such as JustFab, have a wide range of designs from which to choose so go wild.

Subtle makeup tones

When you wear a statement Gothic dress, you need to keep your makeup simple. If you use too much makeup, you could end up looking over-dressed. Use some simple, subtle tones in your makeup. Orange, beige, and brown should be your main color palette. Aim for a nude style effect.
